The video platform supports the integration of external video content (Web Channels) into your institution's account.
To manage web channels, one must have administrative level access. Web Channels are managed within your admin portal.
The list of available preset Web Channels will vary by account as our Editorial team has chosen educational content appropriate for each market. For example, the list of Web Channels available for high schools are different from those available to academic institutions. In general, each account has access to more than 30 Web Channels that can be added to your video platform.
Consortia Controls
This section controls who can see the Web Channels.
Consortia accounts can manage Web Channels for sub-accounts based on their organization type. The default is set to the parent location of the consortia. You can select "All" for changes to apply across the entire consortia. To use Consortia Controls, simply select an organization option from the drop-down and proceed with modifying the Active Web Channels and/or Custom Web Channels.
Managing Web Channels
This section controls what Web Channels display in the platform.
Available Web Channels are preset and will vary by account, as our Editorial team has chosen educational content appropriate for each market.
You can preview the channel by clicking on the name of the channel in the table, this will open the actual YouTube channel in another window.
You can activate or deactivate channels by selecting the box next to the channel you want to activate/deactivate and then using the drop-down to deactivate/activate the selected channels. Alternatively, you can deactivate or activate all channels at once from the deactivate or activate drop-down.
All changes are automatically saved.
Custom Channels
This section gives you the option of adding additional YouTube channels to your account.
You can add channels in one of two ways:
- Find by Name
- Find by ID
In either case, you will need to be referencing a known YouTube channel.
Finding a channel by name allows you to run a query of all channel names in the YouTube database. A YouTube channel name can be found at the end of the URL in a channel home page.
Once you've submitted your channel name, if a match is found, it will say "Channel Found." Once you have verified that this is the correct channel, click the Add Channel button. Note: Web Channels that are added by an administrator can be activated/deactivated at any time by selecting the checkbox next to that channel and clicking on the "Selected Channels" option from the deactivate or activate drop-down. Alternatively, you can activate or deactivate all channels by selected the "All Channels" option from the deactivate or activate drop-down.
Finding a Channel by ID allows you to input the channel's unique ID code. A YouTube channel ID can be found at the end of the URL in a channel home page.
Once you've submitted your channel ID, if a match is found, it will say "Channel Found." If you are satisfied with your selected channel, click the Add Channel button. Note: Web Channels that are added by an administrator can be activated/deactivated at any time by selecting the checkbox next to that channel and clicking on the "Selected Channels" option from the deactivate or activate drop-down. Alternatively, you can activate or deactivate all channels by selected the "All Channels" option from the deactivate or activate drop-down.
