Infobase Authentication Options

Infobase supports multiple types of authentication, allowing members of approved educational institutions to seamlessly access their digital content on the platform. A summary of how each type of authentication works follows. If your institution is interested in implementing any of these authentication features, please contact our support team to learn about specific setup requirements for each option.

Username/Password

Each customer account can have one universal username and password that can be used to log in to the platform. This username and password can be shared with faculty and students within the school or library.

Barcode

Instead of asking for a username and password we can set up your account to request a barcode - typically this is either a library card number or student ID number. We don't access your database to facilitate this process, instead we utilize pattern recognition to ensure the provided information matches what is used by your institution.

IP

IP-based authentication is designed to give users direct access to an institution's the platform video collection, bypassing username and password login. If an institution has a static IP address or range of IP addresses through which it connects to the Internet, IP authentication can provide easy and secure access to all authorized video content and the full feature set of the platform.

Proxy Server

Any institution using a proxy server, such as EZProxy, as its authentication system can utilize this same tool to authorize access to the platform. After a simple setup process, educators and/or students can view their authorized video content from the platform by using the same credentials that they use to log in to the campus-wide proxy server. While we support and work with a variety of proxy servers, we highly recommend EZProxy.

Referring URL

Referring URL authentication provides institutions with a simple way to identify users from a specific institution based on the URL of the website they are coming from and then automatically route them to their available authorized video content from the platform. Websites used for referring URL authentication must be password protected and must not use HTTPS (HTTPS prevents our servers from seeing where the user is coming from, preventing referring URL authentication from working).

LTI

Learning Tools Interoperability performs a basic launch handshake, utilizing secure key and secret parameters, to deliver authenticated content to many popular learning management systems. We currently offer LTI authentication for Canvas, Desire2Learn, Moodle, Blackboard, and Sakai.

SSO

Currently available for our Streaming Video Platform, you can utilize our dynamic Query String URL technology to create a true Single-Sign On experience for your students and teachers. By passing several key SSO parameters in conjunction with your Account Specific Access URL, users can be logged in automatically to their personal user accounts or have a new user account created for them.

SAML

We have recently introduced a new authentication option to enhance your experience with our streaming video services. SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language) provides users with a SSO authentication method that allows for a more secure and seamless user authentication process. Our SAML implementation uses Shibboleth Protocol.

If you're considering implementing SAML authentication for your account, we encourage you to get in touch with our specialized support team. There are a few key pieces of information we'll need from you, and you'll also need to make an adjustment to your Identity Provider. Here are the next steps to ensure a smooth enablement of SAML:

  1. SAML Metadata URL: We kindly request that you share with us your SAML Metadata URL.

  2. Adding our SAML metadata to your Identity Provider (IdP): Please access the following URL and integrate it into your Identity Provider settings: https://iden5.infobase.com/federation/saml/metadata

Should you have any questions or require further assistance, our dedicated support team is here to assist you.
